Filming Blog

Image
Originally, I wanted to film the music video in order from the first verse to the chorus. However, it did not turn out that way. I had to switch the days of filming to ensure that everyone was able to make it to the shoot.  On this day, I filmed the solo scenes with my main actress. In the beginning, I had to ensure that the actress was up to par.  I aided her with her makeup and hair. This took approximately an hour of filming time because I had to make sure that she was comfortable and confident. Fortunately for me, the actress wasn’t camera shy. However, I made sure that she was satisfied with the clips that I had in mind. The filming location was in her room. I experimented with different lighting to find the perfect one. The lighting established the tone of the video. I wanted it to be bright and bubbly. The scenes are supposed to express a girl going through a crush like phase. Every teenager will eventually experience these emotions of some sort. These scenes were a lit...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
The theme of my music video is a teenage crush/heartthrob story. Here, I will have two leads a male and a female. They will be introduced in a slow-motion montage of each clique. They will be in the parking lot of the park. The crews will be talking at their respective tables. The female will look over at the cute boy. She tells her friends about it and they try to get her to talk to him. She is too scared and does not do it. The boys realize that the girls keep glancing their way. They have fun at the park but, a while after they meet up by the water fountain and will “accidentally” bump into each other. The boy slips the girl a piece of paper with this name and number on it. While the boys leave they exchange glances with the girls. The female goes to her friends and tells them everything that just occurred. There will be a transition that shows the female lead in her bedroom. There will jump cuts of her in different positions trying to find a way to get this boy off of her mind...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
The song of my choice is Sittin in My Room by Brandy.  Props The props that I will be using in the main scene will be a diary. This will be used to write down her feelings as many people did during this period. I want to incorporate a stereo, feathered boas, and a body mirror as well. Costume In my music video, the girls and the boys will be in casual attire while we are shooting at the park. Hopefully, they will wear a 90s inspired outfit but if that is not possible then we will wear modern clothing. The males would most likely wear jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. While the girls might wear something similar to jeans a t-shirt or tights. The main model has multiple costumes as she would have to change into a few outfits for certain scenes.  Schedule  On November 19, I will complete my Storyboard Blog. On November 23, I will film the main scene of my commercial with my first model. On November 24, I will film the rest of the music video. On November 29, I will compl...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The Sittin' Up in My Room music video starts with a zoom of a stereo. It then dissolves to the group of people gathered around in a house party. They are listening to the music coming from the stereo. Everyone is dressed up in 90s clothing such as leather pants, fitted shirts, halter tops, and platform shoes. Once the song starts it cuts to Brandy laying in her bed thinking about a boy that she has a crush on. There are different shots    of her singing the song in the same area. She does different activities such as painting her nails and watching TV. She does this to take her mind off of her crush but is unable to. It jumps to different clips of couples in love. The clips are from the film Waiting to Exhale. Lela Rochon and her significant other in the movie are together in the clips. They show them doing what couples usually go do. They are argue, fight, makeup, breakup.    The clips then dissolved to Brandy dancing in her mirror. The choreography was created to m...

Introduction Blog

For this project, I have decided to work alone. I came to this conclusion because I am not well acquainted with the students in my class. The first step of the brainstorming process was to find a song. I went through many songs of all genres, pop, R&B, hip-hop, etc. But, none of them stuck out to me. I put my playlist on shuffle, closed my eyes, and listened to the lyrics of every song that played. After a few songs, I was still debating on whether I should do a hip-hop or R&B song. Then it hit me that I should do an R&B song. I went with the genre R&B because these songs are more meaningful to me. I wanted to choose a song that has substance and would spark creativity. But, the next dilemma was which R&B song could I accurately portray a story with.  The song that I choose was Sittin' Up In My Room by Brandy. This RNB and soul-infused song bring thoughts of a teenage love story. This song brings back a nostalgic feeling of the 90s, the golden era of hip hop, an...

Critical Reflection Questions

Image
Creative Critical Reflection 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?   My product utilized several types of conventions that are commonly seen in hair commercials. The conventions that were used enhanced the audience's engagement with the commercial. I used bright lights in the hair salon to keep a happy interface amongst the video. The convection of the model using the product on her hair was portrayed. The main convention of the model going from frizzy hair to voluminous hair was conveyed through the transformation at the end. I used a score throughout the video that was bright and insinuated a happy mood. The convention challenged was the credibility of the hairstylist. In the average commercial, they utilize a well-known celebrity stylist endorsing the product. Other than that, everything was the same.   This commercial would represent people who enjoy taking care of their hair or is interested in...

TRESemmé Commercial

Image
This project was the first time I shot a commercial. I was not entirely sure how the project would look once exported. The project came out pretty well.  I'm happy with the way that everything turned out and I'm thankful for everyone who helped me create this. As I re-watch this product I think about how productive my actresses were and how helpful everyone was. I love the chemistry and the creative freedom that I had with this project.  Even though this was the first time the two actresses met they help me pull everything together. I am very grateful that I was able to utilize the hair salon and portray the experience that many women go through. Women make sure that their hair is well kept and with this project I tried to portray that. The story of a woman finding her confidence once she transforms herself. Through this project, I feel like I have improved in many aspects. I have learned many techniques that helped me edit. This product was the start of something great. I kno...
