Production Blog: First Group Filming Session

Image
My group and I have finally met up. I had to pick up one of our actresses, Mya. At first we set up a time to meet but my team member had an appointment so they tried to filming earlier. Unfortunately, we ended up filming the originally scheduled time because I live in Deerfield and had to drive to Fort Lauderdale. We met at Akiel’s house and got right to work. The first thing we did was film the establishing shot. We took multiple shots of the neighborhood. One way we did this was by getting high ground. We did a 360-degree overview of the neighborhood. We only filmed scenes 1, 3,5,10, and 11. We then drove to the Corner store and went inside to ask for permission to film. Once we received an okay we filmed the scene of Akiel looking for a snack. Then we shot an eyeline shot. We had to reshoot the scene from different angles. Mya and I set up outside of the store. Once Akiel was done with his solo scenes we filmed our scenes. We filmed the speaking scene but the environment was ve...

Production Blog: Reshoot

Image
Welcome to my blog . Today I had to re shoot the scenes with the children. When I tried to import the scenes onto final cut pro they were disoriented. I was very upset about this dilemma. Even though this is considered a set back. The re shooting process was not difficult. Originally I went to dollar tree for my props for the scene. I had to return to dollar tree for the re shoot. This was a small expense.     I went to pick up the children. I had one of the children to finish the prior engagement. This pushed my filming back an hour. Thankfully the time changed and we have more daylight to utilize. Once we go to shoot we goes to work. The kids new exactly what to do. The kids had great chemistry amongst each other.  The kids got hungry so I bought them something to eat. Another expense on my part. We rested a bit before resuming shooting.     The shooting was over before dark. I couldn’t keep the too because both of them had curfew.

Production Blog: Record a clip

Image
Today, I started to record a few clips for my film. This is the only clip that I am responsible for. Since I am the director for today I had to make sure that the weather will enable us to film. Then after that I had to pick up my cousins. I had to buy a few props such as chalk and some jump ropes from my nearest Dollar Tree. Since we were going to be outside I made sure that they wore masks to follow COVID-19 protocol. The first thing we shot was them using the jump ropes. I recorded the scene where they are just jump roping. I filmed it through multiple angles. The first thing that I did was film a long shot. Afterward, I filmed a two-shot of Raynaiah and Nica jumping rope. They were getting thirsty.  So, I went inside and gave them cold water bottles. This is when I figured out it was a good idea to record. I got a close-up of them drinking their water with a bright smile at the end. I am unsure if we are going to use that clip but I rather have more clips then a limited n...

Production Blog: Time management

Image
I am counting down the days until we start to film. I have reviewed the script thoroughly. I think we have all of the main points down that will help us get a good opening sequence. Each scene has been reviewed cautiously. All of the minor details have been sorted out and we are ready to roll.  I have contacted the actors to ensure that their schedule align with our filming schedule. If the actors do not come then we must have understudies. This is why the communication between me and them are very important. The main roles are definite and will be fulfilled. When we start filming we would meet up around 1 or 1:30 PM. I think the props is something that we need to decide on if it something we need. We are hoping to film next week, if the weather permits. I think things will go smoothly. We may have to  start filming earlier and elongate the number of days we film. This will create better time management instead of us trying to cram everything together. I doubt we will fa...

Production Blog

Unfortunately, Raynaldie, Akiel and I could not film this weekend. We have a filming schedule. Those are the only dates that will suit our availability. I think the film is still in its development stages. I am continuing my research with the we have to continue research until we could start filming. I have revisited the script to visualize how my group will film. Certain aspects need to be clarified. In the first scene, we would need to make sure that there are not many people in our frame while we are filming. We can not film people with our there consent. Hopefully, the weather will permit us to film a clear video with good lighting. For this particular scene, I have been researching the music we will be adding. I need to find out the company to email about the copyright for DMX- slippin.  Once I email the company I would need to wait for approval. Afterward, I could insert the song into our film. If we are unable to get the music we will have to resort to plan B. It is al...

For our film, "Life For Life: A Losing Game" we are unable to film. The schedule that we have set up does not require us to film at the moment. Even though we are not able to do this I am conducting extra research. I am not looking at this as a setback. Instead, I have watched extra film sequences to gain better knowledge about them. I have researched the costumes and props that we could utilize. I have gained inspiration by looking at social media apps such as Pinterest. During this time I utilized this time to reflect on our film and fill in any missing piece that would add to the creative process. The scene of the two children, Jessica and Tommy. Is one that I expanded upon. I will have props such as jump ropes and chalk. The chalk will be used to draw the boxes and numbers for hopscotch. I will use a plethora of angels to capture the perfect moment. The children will be happy and smiling. Hopefully, they will truly be having fun. I will ensure that certain measures are in...

Planning Blog: Storyboard

Image
The storyboard has help my group and I get on track with our film. I think creating a storyboard helps us see how the film will come to life. There are many factors that are included in our storyboard that may have  not  have been  appreciated   if we had not writing or drawn it out. Notting the different camera angle and Mis-en-scene of this film has help us become more comfortable with our proposed film. I think storyboarding is an important part of the film and should be utilized to help organizing the thought process of a film.
