Critical Reflection Questions

How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My product utilized several types of conventions that are associated with music videos from this era like monologues of a person thinking aloud.  But, many music videos from the 90s  contain bright colors.  These colors are appealing to the eye and attract the audience to the video.  Bright colors weren't seen in the music video as there was not a budget for this type of scene.  I used a natural background. Many videos portrayed the experience that a teenager in the 90s would do.  In the original music video, it was going to a house party with a bunch of friends.  In this film I used a park and a bedroom.  The main convection was seen at the end of the video.  The convection of a girl writing in her diary about her day and the person she just met was based around the show Moesha.  At the end of each episode, Moesha always wr...

My Music Video

This project was different than the last. The weather, scenery, and people had an entirely different vibe. The exportation process of the music video is always long for me. I had to try to export the video approximately eight times. There is always an issue in the exportation process. It's either I do not have enough space on my computer or the video quality becomes more granulated once it's finished. It is never a smooth process. Fortunately, I finally exported the film and uploaded it. Throughout this project, I  received creative help from my peers which helped shape this project into what it is. There are somethings I would do differently if it was on a larger scale. However, the project came out well. I'm happy with the way that everything turned out and I'm thankful for everyone who helped me create this. This time around the actresses I used were very energetic. They brought warmth to the environment since it was pretty chilly when we shot the video. I think the...

Editing Blog - Fixing the Transitions

Image
The first thing that I did was import my footage. I then imported the music. Editing the music was my first priority. Then I edited the film next.  I had to make sure that the song did not have any choppiness. I imported the entire song and it’s instrumental. At first, I wanted the instrumental that was used at the beginning of the song to show the monologue of each of the characters originally. However, I was unable to edit the music smoothly to portray the vision. Instead, I went for a more natural flow of the song. I went to the end of the first chorus and split it. I did this because of time restraints. I had to go back and remove the instrumental portion of the song. Once I reviewed the music portion then I moved on to the film. I put all of the unedited footage in chronological order. I then watched the entire film with no trims or transition. I removed all of the unnecessary footage that had the actresses laughing. I trimmed each scene strategically to make it fit the music....

Filming blog (2) - Finding a Replacement

The day that I planned to shoot the majority of my music video had to be delayed for a few days. I was shuffling through many people to find a male lead after the first person could not do it. Sad to say, all of the potential male leads could not make it. During this time, I was disappointed but I had to film and could not wait any longer. I called my friend last minute and she agreed to help me film and the mini love story began. I went to the park and we filmed on a small trail for the opening scene. Here, I shot a few angles of the two seeing each other for the first time. One of them was walking down the trail while the other one was checking herself out in the mirror. They exchanged glances and shyly smiled at each other. I had to film this scene a few times because we all were very giggly. Since this is the first time that we have worked together. We had to adjust and get the nervous out. I had to refilm this scene from a few different angles to see which one captivates the ...
